Humidity is set to climb to 80-100% as widespread deep moisture pours into the area and breakdowns the inversion overnight. The atmosphere will then remain saturated and midly unstable over the remainder of the week. As a result, extensive fog, high humidity and/or periods of light rain or even flurries will likely plague the summit through the next 5 nights. Daytime clouds are expected to pick up today, then turn extensive for the remainder of the week. Broken thick clouds are projected to build in from the south over the next 24 hours, likely contributing to extensive cloud cover as the night progresses. These clouds wil continue to thicken and become more widespread through tomorrow, resulting in mostly overcast skies for the remainder of the forecast period. Precipitable water is expected to exceed 4 mm throughout the forecast period. An influx of deep moisture combined with boundary layer turbulence and persistent strong shear in the free atmosphere will contribute to bad seeing over the next 5 nights. A low very slowly weakening to the NE of the state is expected to undercut the surface ridge sitting off the west coast over much of the week. While this low will hardly affect the stability of the air mass over the state, it will continue to deepen the sub-tropical jet in the area and contribute to a slightly more WSW orientation during this time. In addition, a rather deep trough is expected to develop near the dateline, augmenting this WSW flow over the second half of the week. Nevertheless, this WSW flow will allow deep widespread moisture to pour in from the south over the next 24 hours and very likely continue to stream through the area over the remainder of the week. This will result in a saturated/cloudy air mass by sunrise tomorrow, which is expected to persist through at least the weekend. As a result, there is a good chance that extensive fog, high humidity and periods of rain/flurries will plague the summit through the next 5 nights. Further, the depth of the sub-tropical jet will likely keep winds around 25-30 mph over much of the forecast period, through gusts up to 50 mph are possible mainly on Wednesday.
